VALUE PROPOSITION
The Thin Dielectric Coated Plasmonic Photoemitter is a prescribed coating of a metal nano emitter with a dielectric material resulting in optical enchantments when pulsed by an ultra-fast laser. This new technology allows for an expansion in the electric laser field, by adding a thin dielectric coating to the nanotip. The image resolution in imaging applications such as time-resolved electron microscopy will improve immensely. With 4D electron microscopy becoming a major development in the visualization process this technology could provide key developments in resolution. The invention is applicable to nanoemitters of any shape and material, coated or uncoated.
DESCRIPTION OF TECHNOLOGY
This technology demonstrates that adding an atomically thin dielectric material onto the surface of a metal nanoemitter allows optical field tunneling at ultralow field strengths in ultrafast laser induced photoemission. These coated nanoemitters are used to improve the resolution in imaging applications such as time-resolved electron microscopy and many other fields. When nanostructures are irradiated with laser light, optical field enhancement takes place.
